Thirtieth session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) commenced today. In constructive spirit, the Maldives delegation will be engaging and presenting recommendations to the 14 countries that are being reviewed during this cycle of the UPR. The 14 countries to be reviewed in this cycle are Turkmenistan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Germany, Uzbekistan, Tuvalu, Colombia, Djibouti, Canada, Bangladesh, Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Cameroon and Cuba.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a state-driven review process of the human rights records of all Member States of the United Nations. As one of the main organs of the Council, the UPR is designed to ensure that every country gets equal treatment during their assessment.
