Ambassador Dr Hala Hameed spoke at a panel discussion at the United Nations Seminar Series, 10th Edition. The panel discussion was a joint event organized with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) on ‘Reducing Disaster Risks to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals’. The discussions reflected on the critical analysis of the linkages between the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Ambassador Hala highlighted the Maldives experience with the Asian Tsunami in 2004 and the vulnerability of Maldives as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) in the face of natural disasters, as well as the work conducted in efforts to rebuild the country after the Tsunami and be more vigilant in our disaster risk reduction efforts.
