Thank you, Mr. President,
The Maldives welcomes the delegation from Haiti to this review. We express our appreciation for today’s presentation, and take positive note of the national report, and implementation of the recommendations Haiti received during its second cycle.
The Maldives welcomes Haiti for measures taken towards the protection and promotion of child rights. In particular, the Maldives commends the measures taken by Haiti in ensuring the provision of free education which has shown to have benefited one million children. The Maldives appreciates the efforts made by the Government towards disaster risk management and aftermath of natural disasters. As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) facing the threat of global warming and climate change, the Maldives shares the concerns of the Haitian Government to protect its people and encourages the government in its efforts.
The Maldives further appreciates Haiti’s support to the three recommendations made by Maldives during its review.
To conclude, we wish Haiti success in implementing the recommendations.
