Delivered by Ms. Aishath Shahula First Secretary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva
Thank you Mr. President,
The Maldives welcomes the delegation of South Sudan to this review, and thank them for the updates provided on the situation of human rights.
Our delegation takes note of the efforts made by South Sudan in promoting and protecting the human rights of vulnerable groups including women children and persons with special needs. We appreciate the establishment of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare to promote and protect the human rights of women and children and persons with special needs, and the establishment of a framework to mainstream gender issues.
The Maldives is also very pleased to note that South Sudan had accepted the two recommendations made by Maldives. We wish the delegation of South Sudan every success in the implementation of the recommendations and we encourage the Government to continue its efforts toward promoting human rights in the country.
