Mr President,

The Maldives welcomes the delegation of Bahrain and commends it for Bahrain’s meaningful engagement at the Working Group. Further, the Maldives thanks the delegation for their update on the review. We are also encouraged by the participation of 82 countries during the review.

Mr President,

The Maldives appreciates the support of Bahrain on a recommendations made by the Maldives.

We are also greatly encouraged by the country’s launch of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women 2013-2022, particularly the focus on the principle of providing equal opportunities and empowering women. This plan includes the establishment of the Ibrahim al-Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment, an important initiative developed in collaboration with UN-Women.

We would like to commend the prize sponsored by King Hamad Bin Isa al-Khalifa in collaboration with UNESCO aiming to implement educational, pedagogical, religious and media programmes to promote moderation and tolerance and to combat hate speech that incites terrorism and violence.

We wish the delegation of Bahrain success in the implementation of the recommendations made.

Thank you, Mr. President
