Thank you, Mr. President,
The Maldives welcomes the high level delegation from the Peru to this review. We express our appreciation for today’s presentation, and take positive note of the national report.
The Maldives welcomes Peru’s efforts in protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities notably the Equal Opportunity Plan for Persons with Disabilities 2009-2018 and acknowledges the work carried out by the National Council for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities in the effective implementation of the provisions of the 2012 General Act on Persons with Disabilities. We are further encouraged by the launch of ‘The Early Intervention Programme’ for children with disabilities up to 3 years of age.
Tha Maldives further acknowledges the Government’s efforts to combat trafficking where we welcome the National Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons (2017-2021) and the adoption of the new implementing regulations of Act No. 28950, the Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act.
The Maldives would like to make the following recommendations to Peru:
- Continue to improve the health care services especially in conjunction to reducing the high mortality rate
- Continue to strengthen legal and policy frameworks on the promotion and protection of women’s rights and on achieving gender equality
