Delivered on 19 January 2018

Delivered by Her Excellency Dr Hala Hameed, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva

Thank you, Mr. President,

The Maldives warmly welcomes the delegation of Barbados to this third cycle review and thanks the delegation for their presentation today.

The Maldives welcome the establishment of National Human Rights Coordinating Committee in 2016 by Barbados and is encouraged by the adoption of the Domestic Violence (Protection Orders) Amendment Act 2016 which has enabled to reduce domestic violence.

We are further encouraged by the Employment Sexual Harassment (Prevention) Act 2017 that ensures workplaces free of sexual harassment.

In constructive spirit, the Maldives recommends Barbados to:

  1. Continue effective measures to ensure that children with disabilities has access to special health care, including early detection and intervention programmes.

We wish our fellow SIDS Barbados every success at this Review.

Thank you, Mr President.
