The Maldives delegation actively participates at 71st World Health Assembly held in United Nations Office in Geneva from 21- 26 May 2018.
The Maldives delegation to the 71st World Health Assembly was headed by the Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Maldives to United Nations Office in Geneva, H.E Dr. Hala Hameed. The delegation consisted of officials from Ministry of Health and staff of Geneva Mission.
H.E Ambassador Hala addressed the Assembly on 22 May 2018. In her address, Ambassador Hala reiterated Government’s priority to place health at the centre of development agenda and that strong political commitment has ensured an approach focused on providing integrated, people centered health services in the Maldives.
This year, Maldives was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of the Assembly. The Permanent Secretary of Health Ministry Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdulla represented Maldives as the Vice President of the Assembly.
The Maldives delegation also participated and delivered interventions at several side events held during the Assembly. These include, Side Event by South-South Climate Cooperation in support of SDGs, Side event on Health Environment & Climate Change, Side event on Member States Commitment to the Global Movement towards Universal Health Coverage, Side event on Country led and country-owned efforts on malaria elimination to achieving Universal Health Coverage. In addition to this, the delegation participated at the “Walk the Talk: The Health for all challenge event held on 21 May 2018.
The delegation also held bilateral meetings at the side lines of the Assembly and discussed issues of mutual interest in the health sector.
