Maldives delegation actively engaged at 71st World Health Assembly held from 21- 26 May 2018 at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
The Maldives delegation to the 71st World Health Assembly was headed by the Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Maldives to United Nations Office in Geneva, H.E Dr. Hala Hameed. The delegation consisted of officials from Ministry of Health and staff of Geneva Mission.
H.E Ambassador Hala addressed the Assembly on 22 May 2018. In her address, Ambassador Hala reiterated that Government of Maldives will continue to place health at centre of development agenda. Further added that strong political commitment has ensured an approach focused on providing integrated, people centered health services in the Maldives.
This year, Permanent Secretary of Health Ministry Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdulla was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of the Assembly.
The Maldives delegation also participated and delivered interventions at several side events held during the Assembly. These include, Side Event by South-South Climate Cooperation in support of SDGs, Side event on Health Environment & Climate Change, Side event on Member States Commitment to the Global Movement towards Universal Health Coverage, Side event on Country led and country-owned efforts on malaria elimination to achieving Universal Health Coverage. The Maldives team also participated at the Walk the Talk: Health for all Challenge held on 21 May 2018.
The delegation also held bilateral meetings at the side lines of the Assembly and discussed issues of mutual interest in the health sector.
