Through engagement with disaster risk reduction initiatives, and focus on preparedness for climate induced humanitarian crises, the Maldives has been a vocal advocate for the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Humanitarian Affairs is a high priority area for Maldives, in this regard, the Mission actively engages in humanitarian dialogue led by ECOSOC, OCHA, UNHRC  and other humanitarian bodies. The Mission participates in discussions on best practices of humanitarian action, early warning systems and preparedness in addition to addressing grave human rights abuses in humanitarian contexts in the aim of upholding International Humanitarian law.

As a strong advocate for small island states which are most vulnerable and dedication of the 2030 Agenda, Maldives understands the need for cohesive and delicate balance of political, economic, environmental and social factors that would assist in reaching the most vulnerable ensuring that no one is left behind.
