Maldives-Turkey Bilateral Relations

Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Turkey were established in 1979. The two states have good relations between them mostly in the areas of tourism and defence. Both countries host numerous tourists and would hope to further strengthen ties in tourism and trade. They are in close cooperation with one another on international platforms including the United Nations (UN) and Organization of Islamic Corporation (OIC).

Since the high-level visit from Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan in 2005, there has been a numerous interchange of high-level visits between the two countries where issues of mutual benefit has been discussed. Maldives has benefitted from generous assistance rendered by Turkey, especially in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004.

The Permanent Mission of Maldives based in Geneva has also been accredited as the Embassy to Turkey since 20.
