Applying for a passport for the first time

A Maldivian Passport can be issued to any Maldivian citizen who applies for a passport. If the applicant is under the age of 18, a passport can be issued by the requirements of either a parent, or by a legal guardian.

Maldivian citizens residing in Switzerland must apply for their first Maldivian passports through the Maldives Department of Immigration.

Application for Dhivehi Passport must be submitted via Imuga, the online platform for immigration services.

If you wish to collect the passport in Switzerland, please indicate on the application form that you would like to pick up your passport at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives in Geneva.

For more information, please refer to the website of the Maldives Department of Immigration and Emigration

Processing Time

Following receipt of application, it will take approximately 12 working days to receive a new passport. The process will take longer if the necessary documents are missing, incomplete or not in accordance with requirements, and/or payment is incorrect.
